Christmas Chronicles 2 (November 25, Netflix)
A couple of years ago, Netflix successfully experimented with the family Christmas movie genre. The first "Christmas Chronicles" attracted 20 million viewers, which is very, very good for a streaming service. And now, two years later, the second part arrived.
"Christmas Chronicles 2" is a continuation of the story two years ago. Children - the main characters during this time have grown to teenagers (but Santa Claus is still the same). This time they will have to stop the wizard Belsnickel, who planned to take Christmas away from humanity.
Films
Siberia (November 12, Wink)
A specific movie from a specific director Abel Ferrara. The film took part in the Berlin Film Festival and even claimed the main award. True, in the end he was left with nothing. Film critics called the tape very strange. They say that the movie came out very extravagant, so not everyone can watch it.
There is no point in describing the plot. But in general, we will talk about a lonely man named Clint. He opens a bar in some wilderness, where almost no one goes. True, once a woman is declared in him, who claims that she is about to give birth to a child from Clint. And then sur begins with naked dwarfs, talking carp, conversations with a dead father, and so on.
The main role in the film was played by Willem Dafoe, who seems to really enjoy acting in such an arthouse. An example of this is the recent "Mayak". In general, "Siberia" is a very unusual movie and obviously not for everyone. But if you love oddities and good acting, then why not watch the novelty?
The Legend of Wolves (Nov 13, Apple TV +)
A girl named Robin comes to Ireland with her father. Here, the hunter dad must exterminate the last pack of wolves. Walking through the woods, Robin meets a local girl who, according to her, knows how to turn into a wolf. This is how a strong friendship begins, with a likely tragic ending.
"The Legend of Wolves" was shown at festivals, where the tape was received very warmly. On Metacritic, the cartoon has a very high score - 91 points out of 100. Most professionals are sure that this is the main contender for an Oscar in the Best Feature Animation category.
The cartoon was filmed by Tomm Moore. This is his fourth work, and the previous three have left a bright mark in the history of animation. For example, "Song of the Sea" was nominated for an Oscar six years ago.
"I, Greta" (November 13, Hulu)
The young Swedish eco-activist can be treated differently. But the fact remains: she, in fact, single-handedly brought a rustle to the whole world. The director of this documentary Nathan Grossman claims that he wanted to show how, with desire and perseverance, everyone can change the world. Or at least the country.
Grossman accompanied Greta for almost a year and was present at all key activities. He tried to show the girl not only as an activist, but also as an ordinary person who has his own weaknesses.
Greta herself has already watched the film and was satisfied. She says that at last she is shown not as a naive evil child, but as the "shy nerd" she really is. Critics, by the way, say that the film is not bad, but haters on IMDb “bullied” the tape by 3 points. That is, the movie is at least ambiguous.
"Country Elegy" (November 23, Netflix)
Several years ago, JD Vance published The Village Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and a Cultural Crisis, which has become not only a bestseller, but also a kind of symbol of the industrial part of America. An adaptation of this novel will be released at the end of November.
The film focuses on three generations of one family whose members live in the Appalachian mountains. Breaking out of relative poverty for workers in a ruined steel industry is difficult, but possible. Another thing is that it is much harder to escape from the state of hopelessness.
A serious picture is a serious caste. Two main roles went to Amy Adams and Glenn Close. And the Oscar-winning Ron Howard was entrusted to shoot the film, on whose account "A Beautiful Mind", "The Da Vinci Code", "Han Solo: Star Wars" and dozens of other not the latest blockbusters.
In the director's chair of the film sits Chris Columbus himself, the author of two parts of the trilogy "Home Alone" and "Harry Potter". Kurt Russell is still playing Santa Claus.
Serials
Lunar Base 8 (from November 8, Showtime)
A sad comedy about a trinity of failed astronauts. Although the guys are aged, they dream of going to the moon. To do this, you need to train a lot in a completely terrestrial desert, where NASA built a lunar base simulator. And how many interpersonal conflicts will have to be overcome!
The most famous of the three leading actors is John C. Riley. You may have seen him in films such as The Sisters Brothers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Gangs of New York. By the way, he also participated in the development of the scenario for "Lunar Base 8".
Voice of Change (November 15, Amazon Prime)
Miniseries by Steve McQueen, Oscar winner for 12 Years a Slave. Film buffs may also know this director from films such as Shame and Widows. In his new project, he invited John Boyega and Letitia Wright. Voice of Change has already been shown at a couple of festivals, and it scored 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series consists of five episodes that are practically unrelated to each other. They describe the complexities of black life in London in the 1960s and 1980s. Among the heroes of the series are not only fictional, but also real people, including members of the "Black Panthers".
"Dyatlov Pass" (from November 16, TNT)
An attempt to shoot a feature film about the tragedy 60 years ago, when a group of nine tourists died in the vicinity of Mount Kholatchakhl. The story has overgrown with tons of conspiracy theories, since a convincing version of what happened has not yet been presented.
The authors of the project claim that information from tourist diaries was used in the script of the series. One storyline will be dedicated to the group itself. The second will be connected with the investigation of the deaths of the guys, which is being conducted by a major of the KGB.
Flight Attendant (from Nov 26, HBO Max)
Stewardess Cassie wakes up after a stormy night in a Bangkok hotel. She does not remember anything about yesterday evening, but today she sees a dead man in bed and pools of blood around her. Now the woman has to figure out what happened a few hours ago. This has to be done under pressure from the FBI.
The plot resembles the second part of "Bachelor Party", but this time we have a drama, not a comedy. The series is based on the novel of the same name, and the main role is played by Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory.
Big Sky (from Nov 17, ABC)
A private detective and an ex-cop are trying to find two sisters who were kidnapped by an unknown person right on a deserted highway in Montana. In the course of the investigation, it turns out that other girls also disappeared in this place. There is probably a serial killer in the area who must be found at all costs.
This series is based on the CJ Box novel. David E. Kelly, author of Big Little Lies, wanted to film the story. The cast is mostly not well-known actors from the series, but director Paul McGuigan has been seen in several major projects such as Lucky Number Slevin or the TV series Sherlock.
