Finnish telecommunications company Nokia will receive $ 14.1 million from NASA to build a 4G network for cellphones on the moon.
NASA announced the investment in a $ 370 million contract signed yesterday to send the first crew of the Artemis mission to the moon in 2024, which will include at least one woman. The contract was signed by a subsidiary of Nokia in the United States, reports ukrinform.ru with reference to XDA.
The 4G network will be used by astronauts and vehicles and could form the basis of a potential future moon base. “With funding from NASA, Nokia is studying how Earth technology can be modified for the Moon's environment to provide reliable high-speed communications,” added Jim Reuter, mission director for space technology at The NASA.
As the XDA noted, digital cellular service will dramatically improve terrestrial connectivity once astronauts return to the moon to stay there for a while.
