The next time you log into Spotify, you may have to change your account password. The company decided to reset passwords for a total of 350,000 accounts, after researchers discovered a few days ago a publicly available database containing 380 million records related to private user information, which included data from logging in to a large part of those affected.
Apparently, the security breach was not detected on Spotify, but on a third-party service that had access to users' login details. After obtaining the necessary information, investigators reported their findings to Spotify, and the company concluded that the information was obtained from a service or platform outside of Spotify.
After that, Spotify started a password reset process that will affect around 350,000 app users.
Although Spotify itself will be responsible for notifying affected users of this breach, and forcing them to create a new password for their accounts, we recommend that you change it immediately if you are not yet asked to do so.
